The Perixx Periboard 512
When I started looking for a new keyboard I wanted something a little different that would be more for typing and comfortability than a loud clacking gaming keyboard. I wanted something that I could type on all day and it feel a little more natural. I know the Perixx Periboard 512 is a little on the older side since it was released way back in 2017, but I really like the way it feels while you're typing and how quiet it is. You just have to get used to typing with a keyboard that has a divide in the center which comes with time, but I feel like if you take the time to get used to it you will get a much better and faster typing experience out of it.
The Keyboard Itself
The Perixx Periboard 512 is a wired keyboard that has 7 functional buttons on the very top of it. The functions I'm going to go over are what the buttons did while using Windows 11. The "WWW" button brings up your default browser when you hit it, the "Search" has two functions that I have found, one of them is if you are just on your desktop without any windows open it brings up the search for the computer and if you're on the web then it will automatically bring you to the address bar for a search. The "E-mail" button brings up the e-mail you have connected to your PC, "Sleep" actually puts your PC to sleep so if you have to run you just hit that button really fast and you're good to go. Then you have your "Vol-", "Vol+", and "Mute" which those three buttons control the volume of the sound while using your PC.
Functionality
The functionality of the Perixx Periboard 512 is just what I was looking for! The double space bar so you have one on each side is a great touch as well as how quiet it is, especially coming from using a gaming keyboard for so long. I love typing with the Perixx, and I even find that I type a bit faster and it feels a lot more natural using this keyboard, but in all openness, this isn't my first foray into the ergonomic split keyboard realm and I have always loved them. I really like the keyboard layout except for a couple of exceptions and the functional keys on top are a plus that helps with productivity a wee bit. I've always had to have a number pad with all my keyboards because during my school days, I learned how to use the num pad without even looking and it stuck with me to this day!
The Cons
Now I don't want you to think it is all cupcakes and roses there are a few issues that I have come across while using the Perixx Periboard 512, such as the the arrow keys being a little weird. I dislike the diamond shape I really wish they kept the pyramid-ish shape that is normally standard. I just feel like I don't know which one I'm pressing without looking down. Another con I have for this keyboard is that the lock light below the function buttons makes it hard to see which one of them is on because the light goes across multiple areas and is rather dim when looking at it while typing. If you've never used an ergonomic split keyboard then it will take some time to get used to it which could also be a negative for some folks. The last con I have for this keyboard is not so much a con for me but it may be for some and it is the fact that it doesn't have any RGB lights so it may be a little harder to use in a dark room, but for me I don't mind it to be honest.
Should You Buy It?
The Perixx Periboard 512 is a great Ergonomic keyboard that is very comfortable and quiet. If you stick through and get used to the split keyboard style of typing I think you will be pleasantly surprised about how comfortable and user-friendly typing with this keyboard becomes. Yes, there are some issues with Perixx Periboard 512 but the positives out shines the negatives. In conclusion, if you type a whole lot like me and are looking for a very comfortable ergonomic keyboard that is quiet and just great at doing what it is supposed to do with a great price tag look no further, I have what you are looking for it's the Perixx Periboard 512!
