JavaPresse Coffee Grinder

Did you know that coffee starts losing its flavor and freshness as soon as you grind it? It's best to use your choice of coffee within 15 minutes of grinding for peak flavor and freshness. Though it may be a wee bit more expensive, I've always gravitated toward the whole bean section of the coffee aisle, something about the morning ritual of grinding up your coffee and then brewing it up to get the best flavor possible!

Why I Bought It

I decided to purchase the JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder because I wanted to give a burr grinder a try after using my blade grinder for so long. Electronic Burr grinders are normally a bit more on the expensive side and I just wanted to see how well it worked before I took that dive. I also wanted something compact and ready to go on the road with me and my AeroPress. It's an amazing thing to be able to enjoy your morning routine even on a trip or vacation. If you're interested in reading about my review on the AeroPress Go just click on the name!

Difference Between Burr and Blade Grinder

A quick difference between a burr and a blade grinder is that the burr grinder uses a solid unmoving surface and a revolving one to crush and grind a few coffee beans at a time and a blade grinder normally has blades that move like a fan chops up more of the coffee at once. Now a blade grinder sounds like the way to go right? The problem with a blade grinder is that it really doesn't do a good job of making the grind uniform it just keeps chopping and chopping until it's good enough. On the other hand, a burr grinder only does a few coffee beans at once and won't let any coffee go through it that won't fit through the size that you adjusted on the bur grinder, which makes it more uniform! I've heard another negative for the blade grinder is that it causes a lot of friction which could give your coffee a bit of a burnt taste because of the heat that the friction gives off.

How To Adjust Grind

When I first got the JavePresse Coffee Grinder the burr was set all the way open to coarse so they say on the manual that you want to spin the Adjustment knob all the way clockwise till it's tight then you can go counter-clockwise to choose which grind you like. On their website, it tells you how many clicks counter-clockwise is which kind of grind but I'll give you a brief summary: 1-3 Extra fine, 4-6 Medium fine, 7-9 Medium, 10-12 Medium coarse, 13-18 Coarse. If you find it hard to click either way I like to put the handle on it and it makes it a little easier. They also have a lot more tips and tricks and other information on their website and for those of you who want a quick link here it is- https://family.javapresse.com/grinder

Pro's and Con's

First I'll go over the Con's which are that it is a little on the slow side for grinding especially if you're trying to grind a large amount, now if you are doing it for your AeroPress I don't think you'll mind it much but if you're trying to fill a bigger brewer then you might feel it. I also wish they had somewhere to put the handle like a little strap on the outside or something. The other issue I have for it is that I wish it had a measure inside the container itself but you can get around this by pouring it into your measure after grinding it.

The Pro's for this grinder is that I love how uniform the grinds come out! It'll definitely make it easier to play around with the grinds to see which grind for which brew fits my flavor profile the best! The build quality is very nice and clean and I feel like it would be able to take a beating and still last a great while. I also like how the insert inside the container is plastic instead of glass which gives it a little more durability. The portability of the JavaPresse Coffee Grinder is also a great plus (though like I said before I just wish the handle had somewhere to attach to) you can bring this anywhere and use it anywhere, which makes it a go-to for adventuring and exploring.

Who is this for

JavaPresse Coffee Grinder

Honestly, this little Grinder would be awesome for just about anybody from those who want a cheaper alternative for dipping their toes into the world of fresh grinding and brewing to those who are always on the move adventuring or working. The JavaPresse Coffee Grinder is a great companion as well as easy to use. The only people I would say that this is probably not for them are those who need a large amount of grinding on the daily ( your arm will probably be very tired).

In Conclusion

In conclusion, if you are looking for a great compact grinder that has a lot of grind options, is built solid, and is very portable with a great price look no further than the JavaPress Coffee Grinder! There are a few negatives but I feel like the positives really makes this little grinder stand out. It is also very easy to use and just a great companion for you to bring on your adventures!
