The Snap Shot:
The HyperX Cloud 2 Wired is one of the most comfortable headsets I have ever used. The HyperX comes with decent sound quality and great mic quality. The 7.1 surround sound is great while consuming media but I find that if you are playing a game where Directional Sound is important I turn it off. The HyperX Cloud 2 has great value especially when you consider the quality and functionality you receive when you purchase these headset. When I am asked if these are worth the purchase I would have to say yes because I think I'll be using them for a long time yet to come! If you want more details read below for the rest of my review!
HyperX Cloud 2 Wired
I've always heard of HyperX as a brand but never tried any of their products till now and I found myself enjoying these over-ear headphones from gaming to watching videos. The HyperX Cloud 2 came with two extra ear cups, a detachable mic, a USB-connected 7.1 surround sound control, and the headset itself. This headset is very versatile it lets you connect to PC, PS4/5, and/or Xbox One, however you play your games for the most part these have you covered!
Build Quality
The HyperX Cloud 2 has a frame made of durable Aluminum with a stitched padded headband that will stay comfortable for those long gaming sessions. The headset comes with just the right amount of tension where it sits comfortably on your head without feeling too pinched or too loose. The ear cups are made out of memory foam which gives them a very comfortable feel. I have not come across any discomfort from wearing them for an extended amount of time. However, I do wish the ear cups were a little more breathable they do tend to get a little warm after a bit, but if that issue comes up you can give the more breathable secondary ear cups a try. The build quality of these gaming headphones is great and I'm not afraid of them falling apart on me anytime soon.
Other Features
The HyperX Cloud 2 has a good amount of features that present it as a good buy one such feature is the detachable Mic. This is great for two reasons; one of these reasons is that you don't have to buy a brand new headset if the mic goes out because you just have to replacing the mic and the other reason is in case you want to use a stand-alone mic with this headset, which in many cases I personally do. Then there is the long over 10 ft cord that comes with the control box so it has that reach you may need if you have an unorthodox setup or just simply want to get up and stretch. The control box is also a neat little thing that has a clip, so you can clip it on to keep it within reach. The controller has volume control for both the volume of the headset as well as the volume of the mic.
Sound Quality
The Sound that comes out of the large 53-millimeter drivers comes out nice and crisp when listening to videos of folks talking or movies. Music however feels a little flat and the BASS is not as strong as I would like. While testing the HyperX Cloud 2 with games, I had a hard time figuring out how close or far away they were by the footsteps especially with the surround sound on! The 7.1 surround sound does help with the immersion while listening to music or playing games where directional sound is not as important, but if it is important you might wanna turn that off. I do however wish it came with some software so you can tweak the sound to match what you like but this headset doesn't seem to come with any of that. That is enough of me whining because when it comes down to it, it does have a good sound quality especially when you consider the value you get with it.
Mic Quality
I'm normally pretty tough on mics because I've been using a stand-alone mic for a very long time and I've never looked back.....but, with that said I've tried this mic out and I really do like it. I tested it against my stand-alone mic in two different situations. One of these is with the HyperX connected to the 7.1 surround sound controller like it's supposed to be and I felt like it sounded crisp. I still felt like my stand-alone mic sounded a little better than how the HyperX mic sounded this way. Then I hooked up the headset to my mixer and it felt just as crips but with a little bit more warmth and natural tone. I do have to say though it did catch me breathing a lot and when I say anything with an S it sounds a bit sputtery but that could be just the way I talk. However, I liked how I sounded connected to my mixer and headset more than I liked how I sounded with my stand-alone! So I think I might be rocking this set-up for a while yet.
Is This A Buy
I would have to say when you put all the components of the HyperX Cloud 2 together it comes out to be a very appealing headset, yes it has some drawbacks but if you can live with them I think this is a great set of headphones that could bring you very far! I find the comfort of the ear cups and the tension that comes with them is just right for me and I can use these headphones for hours on end without any fatigue, and The mic quality is great even when you compare it to my stand-alone mic. With all that I do find the HyperX Cloud 2 a great buy for the avid gamer who is looking for a very comfortable headset with a good-sounding mic (sometimes I forget I'm wearing the darn things).
