The Elite Gourmet Electric Kettle is a great 1-liter gooseneck kettle. It's quick heating, easy to use, and has an auto-shutoff feature for increased safety. The biggest issues I've found with this product is that the bottom of the kettle gets discolored after a few uses and that you can't save any custom preset. Elite Gourmet Electric Kettle
I love my coffee! That means I need a lot of tools to make this beverage that I enjoy so much. One of the basic tools needed for coffee brewing especially for certain styles of brews is a gooseneck kettle. I've had a gooseneck stovetop kettle for a while now and needed to replace it, so I went looking and found this electric kettle. It is the Elite Gourmet Stainless Steel Electric Kettle model # EKT3001. This is a wired kettle so I wouldn't plan on bringing this one out with you camping but for use around the house, I found it does the job!
Form and Buttons
The form of this is black on black so it looks very clean and sleek and I noticed it matches all the other products on my counter. The kettle itself is stainless steel and has a 1-liter capacity. The bottom base, the top, and the handle are plastic. However, I don't mind the plastic top and base however that might be a deal breaker for some. The plastic base is actually very nice because it keeps the bottom from getting hot at all. I love that because while brewing with my pour-over you have to put the kettle down and it's nice not to have to worry about it melting anything. The handle is also good because I've never had an issue with it being warm or hot at all. The Heating element that is on the base is rather interesting because it only goes on at a certain angle then once it's on there you can rotate it however you need it. It is a pain sometimes to find the right angle for the kettle so that it fits on the element at first but once you get used it becomes a non-issue. Another point to really pay attention to is that inside the kettle itself is a line that says Max, Do Not Exceed That Line.
There are two buttons on the left one of them is a Preset Temp which allows you to switch between presets for coffee and tea and if you hold it for 3 seconds it will mute everything. The temperature can be changed on these presets however I have not found a way to save the new temperature to the preset so they go right back to what they were the next time you turn it on. The next button is the Hold Temp button and if you hold that one down for 3 seconds you can then switch back and forth from Fahrenheit to Celsius. The Hold Temp button will allow you to keep the temperature of the kettle at the desired temp for up to 2 hours in 30-minute increments
On the right side, you have the knob with a button in the center. This knob allows you to move the time and temperature as you click through the buttons on the left. The button on the top also has two functions which is that it is the start/cancel button so once you get your temp ready you just hit that and it starts the boil. The second function of this button is that it's the off button if you hold it down for 3 seconds. The screen has an emblem on the top to let you know which preset you are on, then it has a temp on the left which is the temp that it is at currently. There is also a temp on the right which is the temp that is the goal, then the bottom is almost like a loading screen that tells you how close you are to the temp that your goal is set to but it looks like a line of small rectangles that slowly fill up as the temp goes up. The Elite Gourmet Kettle also has a neat feature where on the bottom it has a wrapped cord so you can unravel just what you need and leave the rest inside, though the cord is a little on the stiff side so it's a little hard to mess with.
The Good And The Bad
The Elite Gourmet Kettle has some great features however it does have some issues and let's go over those first shall we? One of the issues I have with this kettle is that the bottom of the kettle is starting to get discolored, it may be just a visual thing but it bothers me and it probably doesn't help that I've been using tap water with it. Then there is the plastic on the top lid, though this isn't an issue for me I feel like it may be an issue for some so that's why I think I should put that on here. Then there is the heating element it is just a wee bit weird trying to put it on there sometimes. I also wish they had a liquid measure somewhere on the inside so you didn't have to guess how much water to use instead of just going to the max every time. Another issue I've found while using this is that the knob gets really tight if you go too far one way, so then to fix it you have to go the other way. To be fair I only ran into that issue while I was testing it and never ran into that while just using it regularly but I think it's only right to warn you about that. I also don't like that you can't save any custom presets....there outta be a way but I haven't found one yet.
Now let's talk about the great features that I ran into while using the Elite Gourmet Kettle. I really love that you can set it and forget it until it beeps at you, unlike the stove top which I had to sit there and watch it so it didn't get too hot. Speaking about it getting hot another feature that compliments this product is that the base never gets hot. This is great because I find myself having to put this kettle down from time to time and I never have to worry about where I'm putting it on top of. This kettle also has a great feature where if I lift the kettle off of the base for a minute to wet my filter and then put it back on it just goes straight back to heating it up, no buttons have to be pressed! I also like that they have an auto shut-off feature that will help if you accidentally turn it on with no water in it. It's nice that they have that is for sure but I've always been nervous about leaving stuff like that on that I just find myself unplugging it when I'm done. Just whatever you do be careful with it and remember that thing can get really hot so handle with care! The last thing I'm going to go over is that this electric kettle is super fast compared to my stovetop one. It took my stovetop 6m 45s to get up to heat while it took the Elite 4m and 16s. That is over 2 mins of time-saving and in the morning that is very important when you are getting ready for work!
Why Do I Need A Goose Neck
So what with the gooseneck kettle and why did I need one? Well, most of all it is for a controlled pour when I brew with my pour-over coffee maker. To use this style of brew and many others you have to be able to control where and how much water you pour for an even extraction, this in turn helps create a better balanced and crisp cup of coffee.
Is It Worth It?
Is the Elite Gourmet Electric Kettle worth it? If you are looking for a new kettle and can get over that the top of this specific one is plastic I say you can't go wrong with this one. I love using it daily. It's so easy to use and super fast to boot! The ability to change the temperature then just hit the start button and not have to worry about it getting the water too hot is awesome. If knowing what I know about this kettle now and if I was asked if I would buy this kettle again I would have to say yes I would! This kettle has some issues but to me, the Pro's definitely outweighs the Con's.
